Hi

Does anyone have any information on my great great grandfather, Owen Heffernan who was born June 28, 1826 in Tipperary, Ireland. He married Moria Noonan, also from Ireland. He was one of seven brothers. He and five of his brothers came to Canada during the potato famine in 1847. 2 of his brothers supposedly went to the U.S. to live. My great grandfather settled in southeastern Ontario.

Regards

Ray Heffernan

  • Hi Ray

I could only find this record on www.rootsireland.ie/ (subscription site)

Name: Oliver Heffernan Date of Birth: 27-Jun-1836 Date of Baptism: 1-Jan-0 Address: Parish/District: CAHIR PARISH Gender: Male County Co. Tipperary Denomination: Roman Catholic Father: Jacobus Heffernan Mother: Mary Doherty Occupation: Sponsor 1 / Informant 1: Mary Healy Sponsor 2 / Informant 2: Not Recorded

Not sure if he could be a sibling but I couldn't find any others with these parents.

Here's the only 1 from irishgenealogy.ie (free site)

Name RODNEY HEFFERNAN Date of Birth 3 October 1814 (BASED ON OTHER DATE INFORMATION) Address TIPPERARY Father MICHAEL HEFFERNAN Mother MARY LOTT

There are none in the early Irish Censuses but 127 in the Tithe Applotments (free site) and Griffiths Valuation including 2 Owens in the South Riding.

There are a few Heffernans in the Irish phone book so whether it's worth dropping them a line

There is a mention of an Owen Heffernan on findmypastireland but I don't have credit there: HEFFERNAN OWEN 1824 — 1847 Courts & legal Tipperary, Ireland
