Looking for any documented information on Hugh Flanagan, b. about 1800-1805.  I have some information in Tuam, Gurtlough, Carrowhekeen, Oughterard, and suspect that his family lived in Ballinakill near the turn of the 19th century, as I suspect that his father is Hugh or Hugo, and may have a brother John, as his son was named John.  He married Sarah Joyce, who I also suspect had a brother named Thomas Joyce, who married a Bridget, and immigrated to USA, Ohio.  Hugh's son John also immigrated to Ohio.

Any information would be geatly appreciated.

  • Hi Susan

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out and apologies for the delay!

I take it you have already tried rootsireland or family search or ancestry to find out more about Hugh and his family?

    Best wishes

  • Greeting Susan,

Perhaps this information will be of help? My GG Grandmother was Bridget Flanagan. She was the daughter of Hugh Flanagan, a farmer from Rusheen. This information was obtained from the marriage record of Patrick Morrin to Bridget Flanagan 12-Feb-1866 Parish:CLONBUR 1 Register:2, Page22.

Bridget was 25 at the time of the marriage which could put Hugh in the time frame 1800 +/- 5.

    Good luck with your search.

Thank you Debora, Not sure if it could be the same family, but I will check on it.  I do not know of any other siblings to my G Grandfather other than a sister Ann, who married a Friel.

And Clare, I have checked rootsireland, family search and ancestry.  Have some data.

    Thanks everyone,

    Susan
