Hello Mayo Community,
I am seeking to find Michael Murphy, (b approx 1800- 1830), and Mary Logan (b. approx 1800-1830) somewhere in Mayo. Michael and Mary are my GGG Grandparents. Unsure if they were born in Mayo but I have evidence that children were born in Co. Mayo. I have a very large amount of info on both of these below children an they stayed largely in and near Clinton, Iowa after making their way from Co. Mayo.
Michael and Mary (Logan) Murphy had 2 known children:
*Michael Murphy b. January 17, 1839-1840 Co. Mayo, d. May 1915 Clinton, Iowa, USA
*Catherine (J?) Murphy b. April 14, 1845 Co. Mayo, d. Jan 1932 Norfolk, Nebraska, USA

Michael Murphy, born 1839-1840 married a Margaret Brennon, born 1841 likely Co. KiIkenny. Michael and Margaret married in CLINTON, IOWA in 1865. Believe Michael's emigration year to be 1851 or 1859 and Margaret's 1863.
They had 10 children
*Catherine Murphy b. 1866, Iowa. Married John O'Neil.
*Michael E. Murphy born Jan.1868 in Boone, Iowa death 1958 in Clinton, Iowa. Michael worked on the railroad. Married Kathryn/Catherine Troy/Trie. 5 children: Camilla, Virginia, Margaret, James, and Eugene Francis
*Thomas J. Murphy born 1869 Iowa. Death 1904 Iowa. no know children or marriage
*James Patrick b. 1872, Iowa. Married an Eva Weber. James worked on railroad and moved at some point to Ogden, Utah.
*Mary (Murphy) Walton b.1874 Iowa
*John Edward Murphy b. 1871 or 1875 Iowa. Death 1923 Clinton, Iowa. Married Mary Elizabeth Sullivan. 1 child, Angela Mary (Murphy) Mikkelsen
*Margaret (aka Maggie) Murphy born 1877 in Center Grove, Iowa death 1960 Sterling, IL. Married Edward Gaffey of Sterling, Illinois. 1 know child: Ruth (Gaffey) Allen
*Elizabeth (aka Lizzie) Murphy born 1879 Iowa. Death 1932 Clinton, Iowa. Married Lawrence Rimmer.
*Frank Murphy born 1882 - no other known facts
*William Murphy born 1885 in Clinton, Iowa. William served in WWI
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Catherine J Murphy born 1845 Co. Mayo married a Bernard McGinty Jan 1865 in Clinton, Iowa. Together they had a few children in Iowa. Catherine married again after she was widowed to a William Corrin Nov 1881. Believe they then had a few children together as well. This is all the info known at this time about Catherine.

I have an active Ancestery.com account and also use FamilySearch.org reguraly. What I am looking for are specific Mayo resources. I know that offfical records were not kept in Ireland until later in 1800's so looking at where in Mayo I may find other resources. I am currently in Ireland for a few months and am eager to do dig around in Mayo. Would love for someone to point me in the right direction as to local Mayo resources avaliable that I might be able to use locally.
Any info at any time would be wonderful and many thanks for your time and help.
Very Kindly,
brea murphy

Brea: Many of the Catholic parishes in Co. Mayo do not have records back to 1840-1845. I checked Roots Ireland www.rootsireland.ie and could not locate a baptismal record for a Michael Murphy with parents Michael and Mary from 1837-1843. Roots did not have a baptismal record in 1845 for a Catherine Murphy with parents Michael and Mary. The closest record was in 1847 but when I entered Logan for Mary's surname, I got no record. I assume the parish where they were baptized did not have records back to this timeframe. I also looked at the 1856 Griffiths Valuation for Mayo. There were 36 Michael Murphy entries which won't help, however, I looked at Logan entries and there were only a few. There was an Anthony Logan in Turlough parish and a Michael and Bridget Logan in Annagh parish. ( I was making the assumption that Mary Logan's family stayed in the area). You can use www.askaboutireland.ie to search the Griffiths. Let me know if you have questions. Roger McDonnell
