My gg grandmother was Bridget Forristall b 1821 of Ballalog, Listerlin. She married Michael Kennedy (1819-1901) of Glenpipe in 1844 and their descendants still live and farm in Glenpipe. I am interested in any information or connections on Bridgets Forristall family. Any help appreciated. Liam

  • Hi Liam
There are 7 baptism records of Bridget Foristall (+ spelling varaitions) in 1821 + - 10 years on www.rootsireland.ie/
    There is none in 1821
They are all from either Slieverue RC (2), Glenmore RC (4) or Thomastown RC parish (1)

  • Thanks a mill. Bridget's birth year is an estimate based on her age (another estimate) at death so plenty of scope for error (:>)

I understand that this family were relatively few in number but I'd love to find out a bit more about them. Liam

  • Liam:

Found a brother and sister with the surname Forrestal in Listerlin in the 1901 census.

There's a Robert F in the Tithe Applotments in 1826 - in WEXFORD but none in Griffiths Valuation 1848-64!

  • Col & Roger, You're both 'Stars'. I wonder if there was an RC church in Ballalog in the early 1820s and if not where children born in that area might have been baptised or where the baptism records were kept? Could if be that the nearest church/priest was in Rosbercon? Liam

  • Liam:

My reference book shows that the Catholic church for Listerlin civil parish is Rosbercon and that records go back to 1817. Here is a link to the Rosbercon parish page with some history of the churches in the area.

  • Roger, Terrific - many thanks for your help. Family lore has it that many of the older Glenpipe Kennedy ancestors were/are buried in the CoI churchyard at Listerlin - the cemetery may predate the arrival of the church as was/is common in many parts of the country. Vandals destroyed the old gravestones and the parish records and registers have vanished. As a result we are left with very limited info on that side too. I'd love to find some descendants of the Forristals. Liam
