Doonfenny Parish - Layng and Joynt Families

I looked at the 1834 Tithe Applotment listings for Doonfeeny parish. There were a number of Layng entires all in Ballinglen townland. There was a John but your John would have been around 19 and not likely leasing land. Also looked at the 1856 Griffiths valuation head of household listing.There were five Layng entires ( No John) all in Ballinglen townland.You will also note that there were three Joynt entries all in Ballinglen: Andrew, Edward and Henry.

You didn't mention the familys religion. If they were RC then records do not start until 1864. Presbyterian records start in 1849.

Thank you so very much for the information and your quick response.  Since our US census just say born in Ireland, I'm hoping I'm at least in the correct area.  My first hint was when I received information from the cite:  mayoancestors.com  It stated that this came from the Official Records of County Mayo.  I searched for my gr gr grandmother Elizabeth (Miles and Jane's daughter).  It stated that her Baptism Record 30 October 1853, Presbyterian, Ballinglen, Doonfeeny, North Mayo.  The record stated her father was James Layng and her mother Jane Joynt.  I've seen Miles, John and James and am hoping these are all the same individual.

To see if I could confirm any of this I also requested information on Catherine - Elizabeth's sister and received the same information.  Thus I was hoping this data would lead me to the correct County, Townland and Parish.

First is the cite I list above legitimate in your view?   Second, if you have any other suggestions for research avenues, I would very much appreciate it.

Yes the site is legitimate. You may want to try Ancestry.com to see if there are any public trees on your family. Possibly a distant relative has already researched the family.
