I am looking for information about my gg g/father Morgan Farrell, born about 1800, who lived on a smallholding at Carrowkeel, Bohola. The land has remained in the familyto the present time.
Morgan had five children. John, married to Ann Conlon; Thomas, married to Honor Campbell; Mary, married to Neal Durkan; Onnie, married to John Campbell (brother of Honor Campbell); and Alice, married to Peter McDonagh.
I have no information about Morgan’s wife but believe there may have been some association with Bridget Higgins. Both appear as witnesses at the baptism of some of Morgan’s grandchildren. I believe Morgan died in the late 1870s.
I hope someone can assist.

Anthony:
I located the 1833 Tithe Applotment record for Morgan in Carrowkeel. Looks like he had two holdings: one of 12 acres and the other 2 acres.

Also listed in the 1856 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Bohola parish.

I also located a civil death index record for a Morgan Farrell who died in 1880 in the Swineford registration district. The informant indicated that he was born in 1801. You can get a copy of this record from the General Register Office for around 4 euros. If you plan to get a copy, let me know and I will forward instructions.

Roger, many thanks for the prompt reply and for the information provided. I did have the details of the land holdings, and was confident that Morgan had lived at the same location throughout his life.
I am keen to get a copy of the certificate and would appreciate your advice and help to do so.
Can you help with finding a marriage certificate? I believe Morgan's first child, John, was born about 1837 so I presume the marriage should have been about 1836.
Many thanks, Tony

Tony:
Go to this link https://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx print out the form for a death record. Fill out the form and then add the info from the index record: quarter and year of death, registration district and volume and page number. make sure you just ask for a copy. You have to mail the request but can ask the GRO to e-mail the copy back.
Civil registration of Catholic marriages started in 1864 so you would have to rely on Church records. Unfortunately, the records for Bohola church do not start until 1857 so I don;t think a record is available.

Again, many thanks for the prompt reply and details of the link.
Hopefully, the copy will provide some clues for further research. If not, I suspect I will have gone back as far as I can!
