I know that my maternal grandmother, Catherine Talbot d/o/b about 1887, was from Ballilonty, Drom, Tipperary.  However, I don't know where Martin Foley, my maternal grandfather (born about 1884; died in March 1931 in Brooklyn, New York) was from as my grandmother met him on the boat to the US and married him in Chicago  after arriving in 1922. She had my mom, Margaret Foley in 1923 who married my dad, Aage Christensen, in 1944. When she died in 2006, we lost the contact information for her cousin Margaret from Dublin (who I believe was a Foley). Her cousin Margaret originally contacted her about 1981 in connection with an inheritance from an uncle who had a farm near Dublin. If anyone could get us in touch with cousins, we'd love to get to know them.

Hi to move this case forward we really need some more information on Martin Foley, I have checked the births around 1884 and there are 4 people with the same name baptised in the same timeframe.

The 1901 cencus of Ireland gives 5 results, maybe a death or marriage registration in the USA will give Martins exact date of birth  or maybe even his parents names ?

  • I found his marriage registration in Cook, County, Chicago, Illinois on Mary 20, 1922.  Unfortunately, no application and only the name of his wife, Catherine Talbot.  The Cook County Records didn't seem to have anything other than this.

I ordered his Death Certificate from New York City and it will come in about 4-6 weeks.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it has more information.

I was able to determine that he's not Martin Lawrence Foley who was born on 10 November, 1884 as he was married to a woman named Theresa.

I'll get back as soon as the Death Certificate arrives.
