Hello!
I am looking for any information on my great Grandfather, my father's grandfather.
His name was James Joseph Murphy, born on 12/25/1859, Castlebar, County Mayo. He was married to Sara Kelly, who was born in Nova Scotia. It appears he immigrated to Canada in the late 1800's. He had one daughter (and probably other children) named Nellie, born in Nova Scotia also.
He passed away in Baltimore, Maryland 1/26/1936.
I am very curious about my Irish relative, and whether he left any relatives behind when he left Ireland.
ANY information would be so appreciated.
Regards,
Holly

Holly:
Civil registration began in Ireland in 1864 so only church records would be available for 1859. I checked Roots Ireland www.rootsireland.ie and there was one James Murphy baptismal record in 1859 born to Michael and Ellen in Burriscarra RC parish. Burriscarra is to the south of Castlebar.
Do you know the names of the parents of James possibly from his death record?

Hello Roger!
No we don't know. My son found the dates somewhere on Ancestry.com and he said there was no information about parent's names. If we find them we will be sure to post.
I hope some descendants of his check this site and maybe I can get more information, or communicate with possible relatives. That would be thrilling!Thank you, and regards,

Are there any relatives of the Ryder family in the Castlebar area. My mother was Ryder. Her Father was Michael Ryder from Castlebar and her Mother was Anne O Malley from Islandeady. Michael Ryders Father was John W Ryder. They were related to Cartys, Walshs, Holmes through the Ryders. I have traced a distant relative of a sister of John W Ryder to London. John W Ryder was a Tailor and Peter Ryder and other Ryders were associated with the printing business with the local paper.
