My great grandmother Margaret Quinn was probably born about 1838.

Margaret was married to Edmund Kelly on the 6th October 1862 in the Parish of Ennis at Martin Dillon's house in Market Street, Ennis.  The witnesses were Martin Dillon and Patrick Hoare.

She arrived in Australia on the 17th September 1863 on board the Queen of the East, her age is given as 25, her place of origin as Ennis and her parents as Peter and Johanna Quinn both deceased.  She was accompanied by her husband Edmund Kelly and children Anne and Patrick (the latter born on the voyage).

Her depositor is listed as her sister Mary Quinn who was already in the colony but I can find no further record anywhere for Mary Quinn.

Is there anyway of find out where Edmund and Margaret were living at the time of their marriage?   Did Margaret have any other siblings and is there a record anywhere of how and when Mary Quinn emigrated to Australia?

  • Hi:

Many thanks for your query to Ireland Reachihng Out.  I have had a look at the ennis parish registers which are online at www.ennisparish.com.  The marriage record is there, but I cannot find any related baptisms.  I will check Tulla for you and let you know.

If you have any further information that you want to share, please email me at tulla@irelandxo.com.

    Kind regards,

    Jane
