Visited Ireland and Longford in 2006 with my brothers in an attempt to start a search for ancestors.
Also to visit the area that some of our ancestors reportedly came from.
The family surname has changed from time to time from Barton to Barden and even Bardon.
Will find original immigrant first name. have misplaced.
This ancestor came to america, from Cork reportedly, as farmer but was reportedly skilled
not sure what skill was -- he dug wells in America.
Was in the Civil War on Yankee side and received a grant of land in Alabama.
settled and established farm there.
Would appreciate any help in getting started.
The first visit was not real helpful.
Thank you Artie Sue Stanford Pisanelli

Hi Artie
Here are a few suggestions for tracing your LONGFORD Bartons / Bardens
There are 12 birth/baptism records on www.rootsireland.ie for Barton & surname variants
http://ifhf.rootsireland.ie/quis.php?page=0&prevStartQuery=0
There are also 6 marriage records & 5 death/burial records
rootsireland charges to view records
If you know first names or birth, marriage or death years you can add those criteria to your searches to narrow the results
The other sites to try would be Tithe Applotments (free online)
There are 13 Bardens and 2 Bardons but no Bartons in Longford in the Tithes
Griffiths Valuation 1848-64 Free online has 1 Barton, 3 Bardons & 7 Bardens in Longford
The Irish Censuses 1901 & 1911 are free online
They have 26 Bardens in the 1911 and a few of the other names; 1901 has 17 Bardens & 6 bardons in Longford
There are also a few public member trees on ancestry.com (chrages) which has people of each of the 3 names born in Longford
