Hello, Pleased to find this site today. I have a great, great grandfather James Barry b. Waterford around 1823. First marriage was to Catherine Colbert b. Ireland around 1827. This took place in Cardiff in 1856. They had 3 daughters together in Penmark, Vale of Glamorgan, South Wales between 1859 and 1865. Catherine died and James married my great, great grandmother Elizabeth Williams I think in 1876 - awaiting certificate and they had a son and a daughter - James and Elizabeth both born in Penmark.

I don't have any clue how to trace James ancestry - other than I am hoping for his father's name from the awaited certificate - as I have no ideaxactly where he was from.

Any advice gratefully appreciated.

  • Kim:

Roots Ireland  www.rootsireland.ie has 8 baptisms in Co. Waterford for a James Barry between 1820-1826 (ironically none in 1823). Maybe you should wait for his fathers name before you search Roots.

Roots is a pay site to view a transcription of a church record but you can use the index search process to narrow down the possibilities.

  • Thanks Roger.

James' father was John Barry, deceased by August 1876.

  • Kim:

I checked Roots and none of the 8 James barry records had a father named John.
