Hello! I'm not sure I joined the correct group? I just found out that my 2nd ggpa was born in Washport, Ireland, Co Mayo, but I believe the writing may be incorrect and that it is meant to say "Westport"?
My 2nd ggpa is John Colbert Shannahan born 03 April 1840 to Edman Shannahan and Catharine Colbert.
I'm looking for any info that might to lead to some connections.

The civil parish for Westport is Oughaval.
I checked Roots Ireland www.rootsireland.ie and they did not have a baptismal record for John. If he was Catholic, the RC records for that area do not start until 1845.
I also checked the 1856 Griffiths Valuation for Oughaval parish and there were no Shannahans listed.
