My great grandfather John Walsh was born in Oct 1875 at Spruce Hill Roscrea Tipperary.  His parents were James Walsh and Bridget Ryan according to the information he put on his marriage license in NYC in 1900.

He emigrated to NYC in November 1896.  The story he told his son, my grandfather was that his parents James and Bridget were being evicted and one of the soldiers hit Bridget.  John supposedly tried to retaliate, shot the soldier and left "on the run"  when he got to NYC he found out thasoldier but could never return to Ireland.

I have found a record of James Walsh marrying Bridget Ryan in Borrisoleigh in Sept 1868.

Their first child Margaret was born in 1869

The other siblings I know of are Catherine, Marianne and twins Bridget and Ellen.  In the 1901 and 1911 census there is a son Laurence living with James and Bridget (if I have the correct one).  There was also I believe a brother Edward based on what my great aunt (John's daughter) told me years ago.

I know Ellen emigrated to the US and married a Christopher Kelly in the New York fire department.

In the 1901 census they are listed as living in the townland of irby

In 1911 they are in Kings county (Offaly) DED Ettagh, townland Drumakeenan (?)

any information would be fantastic

regards

Joanne Walsh
