TALLON

I'm searching for any information about my Great Grandfather Francis Tallon's family from Co. Louth, Ireland. Francis was born in 1804, he and Rosetta (Rosa) Plunkett had 6 boys. They emigrated to Canada in 1834. The only ones who survived the trip to Canada were John, Thomas and James, and their mother Rosetta. Francis and 3 sons died of the 2nd Cholera and were buried at sea. Francis's family were Protestant whereas Rosetta's Catholic so both their families opposed their marriage.

Francis's father was Lord or Sir R. Tallon, a wealthy landlord, some relatives later referred to his home as the famous old "Tallon Estate". One letter I have, written in 1926 by my own great grandfather Eddington, son of Thomas, says "My grandfather lived in a mansion with Irish Lord in connection with property at Tallons Corners County of Louth". Louth Hall was formerly named Tallanstown, it's not known though if this was connected to my family. Rosetta Plunkett is said to be from Dunsany Castle, so entitled herself. Over the years the surname became Tallen in Canada. They settled in Frontenac County, Ontario, just north of the city of Kingston. Some were in Camden Township, some in Lennox & Addington, Bedford, Hinchinbrooke and Portland over the years. I grew up in Verona, Ontario, smack dab in the middle of these townships, in Frontenac County. James Tallon went west and settled in Deloraine, Manitoba, where he resided all his life and raised a family. Rosetta remarried and is apparently buried in Napanee, Ontario. John may have settled in Kingston. I have a letter from his son Frank written in 1952, from 26 Regent St., Kingston, Ontario.
