Hello all .

My gt gt grandmother , Julia Mary Maher , nee Phelan , was born 28 th Feb 1826/7 , apparently in Naas . Her father , Michael (( Michi ? )) was born 1803/4 . He married Sarah Phelan ( b. 1809 , Queens County ) in Waterford in 1823 . About that time , he was a serjeant in the 58 th Regiment . About three children were born in Ireland before the family went to N S W in the early 1840s . I think Michael was a Chelsea Pensioner . Michael's parents ; John Maher ( a farmer ) and Julia Hinchey . Sarah's parents ; Patrick Phelan and Anne Mahon .

The above is all that I know of , of my Irish history . I find Irish genealogy hard to understand . And as I live in N Z , it is a little difficult to research 12,000 miles away . Anybody with further knowledge , I would dearly love to know .

John Mitchell . New Zealand .

Roots Ireland www.rootsireland.ie has an 1827 baptismal record in the Naas RC records for a Julia Maher born to Michael and the mother's surname was Phelan. The mother's first name was not Julia.

Roots is a pay site to view the transcription of the church record. If you know the names of Julia's two siblings who were born in Ireland, you may also find their baptismal records.
