~~Hi there,
I live in the UK and am reasearching my Irish ancestors but have hit a stumbling block. I am reasearching the below who are my great great grandparents and were married to each other in 1868.
•John Noon born in 1846 in County Mayo to his father Patrick Noon and mother unknown
•Catherine Noon nee Higgins also born in 1846 in County Mayo and her father is John Higgins and his wife also called Catherine Higgins (her maiden name is unknown)
•They had 4 children together as far as I can tell and their children are Andrew born in 1871, John in 1876, my grandfather Patrick born in 1878 and their fourth child Mary born in 1881.
Hopefully someone can help
My email address is buryfca1@hotmail.co.uk
Thanks

Ballyhaunis is covered by two civil parishes: Annagh and Bekan. I looked in the 1856 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for a Patrick Noon but there was none listed in either parish. There was a Michael Noone in Cottage townland, Annagh parish.

I looked for civil birth index records for the four children in the Claremorris registration district. I could not locate a record for Andrew, there was no John in 1876 but there was an 1877 record, I could not locate an 1878 record for Patrick ( the closest was 1874) and found the record below in 1881 for Mary. You can get copies of birth records from the General Register Office for around 4 euros. The record would show the names of the parents and the townland where they lived. If you want to get a copy, let me know and I will forward instructions.
I assume the family left for England before 1901?

Hi Roger
Thanks for your reply. I am willing to pay 4 euros to see a copy of the certificate and see if there is any further info on that.
I did look at the records on the national archive and found a John Higgins aged in his 70's and his wife Catherine Higgins also in her 70's in the 1901 census and they lived in Tawnynagry, Dvleash West, Mayo. They are also both still around in the 1911 census. However their children listed on bot censuses are not names that I recognise but they do say that they have 7 existing children so the children not listed on the census are probably in the UK. I am curios to know if they are the same family as mentioned in my family history.
I answer to your question, yes, Patrick Noon and Catherine Noon nee Higgins moved to the UK before 1901 as I have a copy of their marriage certificate and they got married in the UK in 1868
I look forward to hearing back from you

I could be wrong but I don't believe the John and Catherine Higgins that you found pertains to your family. The couple you found lived in Ballintober parish which is a good deal west from Ballyhaunis.
If Patrick and Catherine Noon married in the UK in 1868 then I assume all the children were born there. If so, you need to disregard the information I provided about civil birth index records since I was searching Irish birth records.
