Searching for information on my family's origins in Ireland and any possible living relatives.
John Sherrard - Sherard - Sherrod, my 3rd great grandfather, arrived in New Brunswick in 1827, approximate age 42. He is enumerated in St. George, Charlotte County, NB, in the 1861 census as age 56, religion-Anglican. I estimate he was 18 to 22 when he arrived and would have been born between 1804-1810. I have found no record of what ship he may have arrived on, so no definite date of arrival or place of departure. According to family tradition, he was from Londonderry, Ireland.
He married Catherine Ash in 1831 and raised a large family with her. Their children were, Martha (1832-1849), Nancy (1834-?), Solomon )1837-1894), James (1839-1895), John (1842-1896), Joseph Henry (1845-1880), Robert Thomas (1846-1917), Nathaniel Louren (1850-1938), Tobias 1852-1905) and Hugh A. (1855-1923).
In the 1845 muster roll of the 7th Company 2nd Battalion Charlotte County Militia, commanded by Leiut. Col. Wyers. John Sherrard is listed as "Sarjeant".
John Sherrard died August 29, 1868, shortly after moving to Charlotte, Maine. On his tombstone, it reads: Pass a few swiftly fleeting years, And all that now in bodies live Shall quit like me the vale of years Their Righetous sentence to Receive.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out and apologies for the delay in getting back to you.
If John was from Londonderry he more than likely left Ireland from the port in Londonderry or possibly Larne. Alternatively, he may have first travelled to Glasgow:

Unfortunately John?s departure is too early to search the New Brunswick Database from the 1840s onwards.
Does his marriage record to Catherine give any indication of a parish in Derry, or do you possibly have anything that could point towards a parish area?
Best wishes

Hello Clare,
Thanks so mcuh for your reply. I'm afraid I have very little to go on, with John Sherrard. I do, however have a firm date in his marriage to Catherine Ash from a transcribed record. I will try to find the actual record on microfilm to see if anything more was indicated there.
Best regards,
