My great great grandparents emigrated to Canada in the late 1830's or early 1840's.

Their names Patrick Hogan married  Bridget Purcell.

She was born Jan. 1817. Her parents were Patrick Purcell and Mary Corrigan or Corcoran

Her parish was Moycarkey. Her address was Ballymurreen.

She had 2 sisters that also came to Canada. Anastatia married John Connors and Mary married Richard

Spencer.

I found their marriages Anastatia and John were married March 5, 1832 in the Killenaule Parish

Mary & Richard were married Oct. 19, 1844 also in Killenaule Parish.

I found all of this in the Cashel amd Emly Archdiocese.

Would really like to find the marriage of Patrick and Bridget

Sincerely

Joanne

  • Dear Joanne

As you can see from the link below, Moycarkey is a Civil Parish in Co. Tipperary:

    http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/townlands/index.cfm?fuseaction=TownlandsInCivil&civilparishid=2263&civilparish=Moycarky&citycounty=Tipperary

Records for the corresponding Roman Catholic Parish of Moycarkey and Borris begin in begin in 1793. There are quite a lot of missing records in the series however, most notably between 1817 and 1830. There will be no civil record of the marriage as civil registration did not begin until 1864. I have looked on ww.rootsireland.ie but cannot find any record for a marriage between a Patrick Hogan and a Bridget Purcell. In fact there are no Tipperary marriages for a Patrick Hogan recorded at all.

Do you think Bridget married before or after her sister? Did she marry in Ireland to your knowledge?

    Best wishes

    Clare Doyle
