  • Hi Fay

I'm wondering how accurate the birth years are as for Bridget to have 10 children after 1852 when born 1813 seems a late start.

The only record of the baptism of Bridget in Tipperary is 1835 in Tipperary on www.rootsireland.ie/

    The parish is Nenagh RC.

I couldn't find the marriage on Victorian BDM to check the ages.

There are a couple of public member trees on ancestry.com that have Daniel's birth year - one has 1822 and the other 1824

There are 10 Daniel Ryans born 1823 + - 1 year in Cork on rootsireland - 1 in Rosscrea RC, 2 in Dunkerrin RC & 6 in Newport RC.

I don't know how to work out which one is yours unless the marriage record has one or both of his parents' names - but I can't find the marriage record!

  • Hi Fay

    Thanks for your message

So when William was born in 1868 Daniel was 44 so he was born in 1824 and Bridget 39 so born in 1829.

There are 3 Daniel Ryans born 1824 - 1 in Rosscrea and 1 in Newport; I couldn't find the parish for the third.

There is 1 record of Bridget HARTNEDY in 1829 in Limerick

There are 8 other records of Bridget Hartnet 1829 + - 6 years: 2 in Cork, 5 in Limerick and the one I mentioned previously: 1835 in Tipperary.

On ancestry there is a public member tree which has Bridget's death record: (below) as 1887 aged 55 so born 1832 which is getting close to the 1835 Tipperary record. It says her parents were Robert Hartnet and Johanna Ryan but I could not find this record. The tree is owned by maracody66 - I could try to contact her on your behalf if you like.

The Tithe Applotments (1823-37 & free online) don't have any Hartnets in Tipperary.

    Neither do Griffiths Valuation 1848-64.

The 1901 census has  only 1 in Tipperary - a ten-year old - and there are none on the 1911.

It looks like they all got out of Ireland!

I noticed another tree on ancestry which has a John Hartnett born 1821 in Clonmel Tipperary & died 1896 in Clifton Hill Vic. Could this be a cousin of Bridget's? Parents are Johnhartnet and Frances Legge.

  • Hi Fay,

I noticed that the owner of that tree hasn't logged on to ancestry for 6 months so the reply might be slow.

    Here's another idea:

There are 4 Hartnets in the Irish phone book (free online).

    http://www.eircomphonebook.ie/q/name/who/Hartnet/?customerType=RESIDENTIAL&contentErrorLinkEnabled=true

Maybe if you wrote them a letter to the effect that you're trying to find Bridget's birthplace and want to visit it etc and include your contact details perhaps that will bring a result.
