I am researching my Sheldrick family. I found a record of the marriage of Thomas Sheldrick and Eliza Bourns on September 12, 1848 in Ballinrobe. Eliza's death certificate names her parents as William and Sarah Bourns.
I have also found a great many other records for Joseph Sheldrick, who married Margaret Kelly in 1862. Joseph and Margaret's son Joseph, born 1872 in Ballinrobe, migrated to the US in about 1880. Joseph became a naturalized US citizen and his sponsor was my great grandfather. Thomas William Sheldrick, the son of TS and EB mentioned above. I believe that Joseph and Thomas William were cousins.
Margaret Kelly Sheldrick, daughter of Robert Kelly, emigrated to the US in about 1880 with most of 7 living children. Their names are Robert, Richard, Barbara and William. Most of my research has been done on Ancestry.com. If anyone has any information about the Sheldricks, Bourns or Kellys of Ballinrobe or surrounding communities, I would greatly appreciate any help you can provide to me.

Hi Charlie
There are 27 Sheldrick birth/baptism records on www.rootsireland.ie/ - 18 are in Mayo but there are no Thomases.
The 1901 Irish census (free online) has 1 Sheldrick - in Dublin while the 1901 census has 8 - a couple and 6 children also in Dublin.
There are 2 Joseph Sheldrick birth/baptisms in Mayo; you need to purchase credit to view the full record but it will have the parish and MAYBE the parents' names.

There are no Sheldricks in the Tithe Applotments 1823-37 or Griffiths Valuation 1848-64 both free online.
There are 2810 Sheldricks on Family Search (IGI) with the early ones in Cambridge England (1680's)
When I searched for Sheldrick in Mayo on IGI there were 4 results including Thomas's marriage to Eliza Bourns 1848 in Ardanaree Mayo with his father RICHARD.
It looks like there are 3 marriages of Thomas's siblings George Ann & Jane also.
.I couldn't find a birth record for Eliza BOURNS but did find one for BURNS with the same parents' names - 1829 in Mayo.

There seem to be quite a few public member trees on ancestry.com with Sheldricks born in Mayo including Richard Robert Joseph George Thomas & William and parents Richard Sheldrick & Margaret Kelly or Eliza Booth.
I had a look for Richard Sheldricks births but only found 3 - all in Mayo in the 1860's so too late to be Thomas's father.
There are 3 Sheldricks in the Irish phone book (free online) so if allelse fails you could drop them a line - never know your luck.

Col,
I recently received information from several sources which has resolved my questions about my Sheldrick ancestors back to the middle 1700s. Most helpful were several military records for Richard Sheldrick which provided his birthplace (Linton, Great Abington, Cambridgeshire), and birth date (February 1789). Also helpful was information about the Sheldrick and Bourns families provided by other researchers and reference to the Mary Strange book about the Bourns families of Ireland. Finally, I received a great deal of helpful information from both the North Mayo Heritage Centre (Brendan Walsh) and the South Mayo Family Research Centre (Ger Delaney). They both indicated that the name Sheldrick does not appear very often in Irish genealogy records. Most if not all of the people named Sheldrick in Mayo mentioned in your email are related to Richard Sheldrick.
It turns out that Richard Sheldrick enlisted in the British Army in 1809 and continued to serve through August, 1830. During that time, he served under the Duke of Wellington and found in several wars, including the Battle of Waterloo. Upon his retirement in August, 1830, he returned to Tuam, Ireland where he married Eliza Booth in 1821. I now have a list of their children and other records that provide a great deal of information about his children who emigrated to several places including Canada and the US. Eliza died in 1851 at the age of 46 and Richard died in 1880 at the age of 91 in Ballinrobe.
I am still looking for other family members, but it is nice ot have made some progress since I posted my question here several years ago.
Thank you for your help in providing the information that ultimately allowed me to break down the "brick wall" that separated me from my Sheldrick and Booth families.

Col,
I hope this email finds you in good health. I am considering a trip to Ireland and England later this year, perhaps September or October. I see that Ireland XO assists folks like me with connecting to family and/or residences, etc. Given your research (almost 6 years ago-time certainly does fly!) and mine, I would not expect to find any Sheldrick family currently residing in County Mayo (or elswhere for that matter).
I would like to see if there is any information available about Eilza Booth (1805-1851) who resded in Ballinrobe at the time of her death. Richard Sheldrick apparently resided in Ballinrobe at the time of his death on 18 November 1880. I did find a residence for RS in Griffith's Valuations (1856). I believe that it references the owner as Colonel Charles Knox and RS is referred to as Richard Shuldrick. Another Sheldrick researcher mentions the home still exists and is located on the South side of Convent Road in the Townland of Cornamoya.
Information from other Sheldrick researchers (descendants of Anna Mariah Sheldrick, b. June 1840) indicate that Eliza Booth was the child of Thomas Booth (1775-1829 in Tuam, Galway) and Jane Sanford (b. 1783- ). I have also seen the name Robert Booth listed as witness to the marriage of RS and EB. The AMS family research also indicates a connection of some undescribed nature with Westport, Ireland. Gerard Delaney of the South Mayo Family Research Center mentioned the marriage of a George Booth and Jane Deane in 1814 in or near Westport. Unfortunately, this is about all have been able to come up with regarding EB or her family.
If you have any information about how what assistance is availble from IXO for a trip within Ireland, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you.
Best regards,
