Hi! I am looking for any information that I can link to my ancestor, Edward Burke, who was born in Galway and emigrated to the United States around 1850. He lived in Pennsylvania (probably Philadelphia) with his wife, Mary Kelly. They married and had three children; Margaret b. 1855 in Pennsylvania, Edward b. 1856 in Pennsylvania, and Miles b. 1859 in Ohio.
Mary Kelly was born in Ireland in 1835 and emigrated in 1850. I would assume Edward would be around the same age as Mary.
I'm assuming Edward died in Pennsylvania before Miles was born in 1859 because he is no longer in the picture at that point.
Unfortunately this is all of the information I have regarding Edward but am really interested in finding out specifically where he came from in Ireland and possibly finding out any family members he had.
Thanks!

Jennifer:
I looked at Roots Ireland www.rootsireland.ie in the Galway West area and found 3 Edward Burkes baptized between 1828-1838. Roots is a pay site to look at the data on a record. There was also one Edward Burke in this time period for Galway East. However, without having his parents names, it would be hard to determine if any of the four records pertain to your Edward. Also some Galway parishes do not have records that go back that far. If Edward was baptized in one of those churches, his record would not be available.

Hello Jennifer,
I also descend from Galway Burkes, through my mother who is a Burke. Do you know if your Edward Burke was from Galway City, or just the county? Do you know his occupation? Have you done any autosomal DNA testing? I've done a fair amount of research on the Burkes in Galway City, including research in Ireland. If you would like to compare notes on our Burke research, please feel free to contact me at stonehouseresearch@gmail.com.

Thanks for the information, Roger. I was afraid that I would have trouble finding anything with the little information I have. Perhaps I am going to have to focus my research in Pennsylvania for now until I can find out more about Edward. I'll keep looking though and will check out the site you mentioned above.
Thanks again!
