I am looking for information on my great grandparents David and Elizabeth Gilmore (Gilmore was also Elizabeth's maiden name). They were both born around 1845 in Down?. They were married in Ballyphilip in 1869. Two of their family David George born 1870 and James born 1871 were born in Ballyphilip. David's parents were Patrick and Jane Gilmore. Elizabeth's parents were James and Helen/Ellen Gilmore. David had a brother Robert (may have had more siblings - do not know) Elizabeth had a sister Ann Jane (may have been other siblings) Robert and Ann Jane were married in Irvine, Scotland. David and Elizabeth moved to Ayrshire in 1870/1871. David and Robert were master mariners.
Hope you can help.
Thank you

Dear rowenna1
It might be a good idea to have a look for the church records for this family. The Church of Ireland parish records for Ballyphilip (Portsterry) begin in 1745 while the Roman Catholic baptisms exist from 1843. You could have a look on a subscription site Roots Ireland at https://www.rootsireland.ie/ or at Family Search at https://familysearch.org/
There are over 500 Gilmores listed on the 1901 Census and 2 on Griffith's Valuation; Robert and James, see both links below:
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/results.jsp?census_year=19…

Hope this is of some help

Dear Mrs Doyle,
Thank you for the information on the Gilmore family, I will have a look at suggested sites.
I know Gilmore is a common name in County Down, and I wonder if David and Elizabeth's family were related.
Thanks for your help.
