Please see the civil marriage index record below from 1876. I'm wondering if your John and Mary were a little older than your dates which would fit 1876. There are two Gortnaskehy townlands and one is in Macroney civil parish on the border with Co. Waterford. I'm wondering if Mary was from Waterford close to the Cork border. You can get a copy of this record from the General Register Office for about 4 euros. If you are interested, let me know and I will send instructions.

In the middle of the page, hit the link for a marriage record in English. print out the form, fill it out to the best of your ability and include the info on the index record: year, registration district, volume and page number. Make sure you only ask for a copy. You have to mail the request but you can ask the GRO to e-mail back the copy to you.
