I checked Roots Ireland www.rootsireland.ie for baptismal records for a John Butler in Co. Waterford around 1844. Roots is a pay site but they have a 40% off special until 1/6/2014. They do have an 1845 baptismal record for a John Butler born to a Michael Butler. However, when I added Ellen as the first name, the response from Roots indicated that Ellen was not the first name for the mother with this record. Not sure if this is your John Butler or another John. You would have to register and pay to see this record to determine if this is your John.
