Hello - My Great, great grandfather was John Peter Cunningham, son of Peter Cunningham and Bridget Wier. As best as I can tell from various records, John was born in Cashell or Balina in 1868. He came to the US in 1890, in all likelihood joining his Cunningham cousins in Scranton, Pennsylvania for 2 years before going to Butte, Montana in 1892. John died at age 42 in 1910 having worked 18 years in the Butte copper mines.
I do not have much if any information on Bridget Wier's family and was hopeful that someone might have some direction for me to look for any record of the Wier family in the same general area.
Thanks!

Mike:
I looked at Roots Ireland which is a pay site to see records. www.rootsireland.ie There is an 1868 baptismal record for a John Cunningham born to Peter Cunningham and Bridget Wier. You may want to register and view the record which would cost around 5 euros. I also looked at the 1856 Griffiths Valuation head of household records and there were 22 Weir records for Co. Mayo. Most were in Achill parish but a few were for the area around Ballina. You can look at the Griffiths records for free on Roots. Possibly Bridget's father is listed.

Sounds like you may already have info on the Cunninghams, so you may already have found them in the census records. If not, this could be your Peter and Bridget Cunningham in 1901 census:

and in 1911:

There are also two other Cunningham families in Cashel.
Do you have a good list of John's siblings? Maybe you can also find them in the baptismal records. If the family used the typical naming conventions, you might be able to assume the second son was named after Bridget Weir's father and narrow down your possible families in the Griffiths and the censuses.
Good luck.
