my great-great-grandfather, Daniel Doyle, died and was buried on 24 January 1848 at Milltown County Westmeath

- his eldest son, Luke Doyle (baptised 11 Nov 1829 at Mulingar), settled in Argentina and married Catherine Gaynor ... and there is a large number of their descendants still in Argentina, and we in Australia are in communication with them.

- Daniel's widow, Anne Carbery (or Carberry or Carbry), moved to New York USA with her other children, arriving in New York in 1851

- the Doyle family arriving in New York on the 'Lady Hobart' were:

Anne Doyle                  36 years Widow

Christopher Doyle       18 years Farmer  (baptised 18 Sep 1831, Ballymore)

Mary Anne Doyle         16 years Child  (baptised 16 Oct 1833, Milltown)

Peter Doyle                   14 years Child  (baptised 3 Nov 1835, Milltown)

Bridget Doyle                11 years Child  (baptised 8 Mar 1840, Milltown)

Eliza (Elizabeth) Doyle    7 years Child  (baptised 31 Mar 1843, Milltown)

Nicholas Doyle                 7 years Child  (baptised 31 Mar 1843, Milltown)

Teresa Doyle                    3 years Child  (baptised 15 Apr 1847, Milltown)

Catherine Doyle was baptised on 8 April 1838 at Milltown, but does not appear on the passenger list when the family arrived in New York.

After arriving in New York, Christopher Doyle then travelled to Australia, arriving in Melbourne in 1853 ... he married twice in Melbourne, and there is a large number of their descendants still in Australia and we are in communication with them.

The Godparents of these Doyle children were probably living close to Ballymore and Milltown, and may have descendants still living in Ireland, and we would like to re-connect with them, as some are obviously relatives of Daniel Doyle and Anne Carbery (Carberry / Carbry).

These Godparents were:

1831    Mary Carbry (Carbery or Carberry)

1833    James Carbery & Bridget Carbery

1838    James O'Loughlan & Elizabeth Carberry

1840    Bernard Wheeler & Jane Wheeler

1843    Patrick Murray & Mary Anne Doyle

1843    Elizabeth Carberry & Thomas Murray

1847    James Wrinkle & Julia Murray

We are also trying to track down the descendants of those members of the Doyle family who settled in New York, and we have already made some progress ...

It would be very nice if the descendants of this Westmeath Doyle family who are now living in Australia, Argentina, and the USA could reconnect with members of their family still living in Ireland ... this may even be of interest to the Irish T.V. and newspaper media.

Best regards,

Michael Doyle, Dromana, Victoria, Australia
