Patrick Joseph Doyle was born in Kilkenny about 1850. At age 18 In 1868) he joined the British Army and was based in Dublin and England before going to India to serve. In 1881 he married Amelia Rebeira (of Indian/Portugese heritage). In March 1883 Patrick left the Army and he and Amelia came to South Australia. On their marriage certificate it states that Patrick's father was Patrick Joseph Doyle and was a shoemaker. I do not know his mother's name, nor if he had any siblings but according to his Army records he never went back to Ireland. He was about 5' 6" tall and was 32 when he married Amelia. She was only 18 years of age. They had 5 children in South Australia (one died aged 15 years) and Patrick left Amelia to fend for herself many times during the years they were married. There seems to be a heart problem in the family. I do not know whether it came from Amelia or Patrick. Any information would be most appreciated.
