There are two Garryduff townlands in Co. Kilkenny but your Garryduff is in Kilmacahill civil parish.

I checked the 1833 Tithe Applotment listings for that parish and there were two Lannans in Garryduff: Patrick and Matthew. Not sure how they connect to Thomas. http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/reels/tab//004625679/004625679_00345.pdf

I checked Roots Ireland which is a pay site. I looked for children of Thomas Lannan and Mary Brennan but only one index record came up for Catherine's baptism in 1830. www.rootsireland.ie

  • Hi Roger,

    Two Garryduff's in Kilkenny ? .

Where are they placed/ I am unfamilar with the County Parishes/ District in Ireland.

My information on my ancestry was handed down from G/grandma Mary Louisa Williamson Anne's Lannen/Lannon/ Lannan, daughter. I have been on Roots/ a very expensive site for an aged pensioner to look at singular data entries. We have Library sites here where you can add family members( born in Tasmania.) Free. I started gathering information in 1969/ only this year on Anne/ still have another Irish side ( Convicts).

I have R/C baptism for only three of their girls that state, Address Garryduff/ 1.Bridget Lannen1822 Parish Leighlin Bridge / 2.Parish. Paulstown.Catherine Lannon1830 & Anne Lannen,is My g/g/grandmother was 1835 Paulstown.( Variation's name spelling on all records).

I have found a birth for A Thomas Lannan1783 Leighlin Bridge/ ? is it him. (4.Entries only) 54. Entries for Mary Brenan/ No marriage year dates match for Thomas & Mary. I am assuming that people travelled close counties for work in these times+ the Potato Famine.

Mrs Catherine Maher (married Patrick Maher in1854 at Gorwan, Kilkenny) & Anne ( Single) Immigrated to 1851-1854 Tasmania- Australia.

The Kilmacahill Lannan's appear to have immigrated to the U.S.A

Tithe Applotment Books 1814-1855. Thos Lannan1826-1837; Townland Killaree. Parish Odaugh. County Kilkenny.

I am not sure where to look for their marriage.

    Thank You,

    Kind Regards,

    Ann Griffiths

The two Garryduffs are in Kilmacahill civil parish and Owning Civil parish.  Kilmacahill is in northeast Kilkenny near the Co. Carlow border while Owning civil parish is in southwest Kilkenny near the Co. Waterford/Co.Tipperary border.

Paulstown is in Kilmacahill parish and Leighlinbridge is in Co. Carlow right near the Co. Kilkenny border close to Kilmacahill.

Since the 1822 baptism was in Leighlinbridge, I'm wondering if the marriage was also in that parish. Two alternatives. here is the link to the parish ( I'm assuming the Lannans were RC). http://www.leighlinparish.ie/2011/08/st-lazerians-church-leighlinbridge/

You can contact the parish to see if they can check for a marriage record pre 1822. The other alternative is to request a microfilm of the leighlinbridge church records which go back before 1800. I don't know if there is a Mormon Family History Center near you. If there is, you can order the film online at www.familysearch.org and have it sent to the local FHC for viewing. Normally costs $7.50 in dollars. let me know if you have questions.

  • Hello Roger,

Thank you for explaining the district to me it has given me a better understanding to research.I will use the link you sent, yes, they were R/C. I go to the local Morman Family History Centre/ I have helped others research there. ( I am not a morman) and do most of mine at home. Tramped the country side of Tasmania in local council chambers that held the Registers for family records for years, before they gathered them up and sent to Hobart in 1988. The L.D.S. did not show mine up. I can take another look into the library on the L.D.S.

    Thank you for this assistance,

    Kind Regards,

    Ann Griffiths
