I am trying to trace my wife's family who migrated to Australia from County Clare sometime in the 1800's, possibly post 1850.  We know of one daughter, Annie Linane (also spelt Linnane) born 1864-1867 in County Clare (Info.from Marriage Certificate.)  to Patrick Linane and his wife Anne Kelly. There is some family history that a member of the family may have come from Killarney.

Annie Linane was married in Castelamaine Victoria Australia in May 1890 when she was either 23 or 25.

We are holidaying in Ireland in April 2014 and we intend visiting County Clare at that time.My wife has always had a particular affinity with her Irish roots. I am trying to gain any information that I can so that even if it means just knowing that the family came from a particular area, that would be enough to satisfy my wife's need for knowledge about her ancestory.

I realise the information I have is limited, but any help or advice would be greatfully received.

Thank you & regards

  • Dear Graeme:

I just saw your query on the message board.  The first place that I would tell you to look is at the Clare County Library website.  They have a very good genealogical reference area onsite that you will find very useful.

You can also try familysearch.org and put in the information about your Annie Linnane (Linane) with her parents' names.  Try to use the different spellings as you have mentioned.

In addition, I have done a quick look for you in Griffith's Valuation through the Clare Library website.  Here are the Patrick Linnane family names that come up.  The Feakle records are online through the Clare Library website under the Donated Materials Tab, scroll down to Births/Baptisms< Marriages and Deaths.  You will have to scroll through a lot of information, but you may be in luck!  In addition, the Ennis records may also be online through ennisparish.org.

If you have any further questions, please contact me.

The best of luck with your research.

    Sites to look at:

    www.clarelibrary.ie/genealogy.

    Kind regards,

    Jane.
