I have found a marriage of Daniel Leary and Anne Fogarty, 1840 in Yougalarra, Co. Tipperary.  This possibly the brother of my 2 great grandfather but no parents names are listed.  It is a church record.  Did the church records not record the parents?

Most of the others were in Ardfinnan Parish, but the parents were married in 1816 in Clogheen.

Any ideas?

  • Unfortunately the church records in Ireland at that time rarely contained any more information than the date, couples names and their 2 witnesses. Occasionally you get a townland or occupation but often not.

Tradition was to marry in the bride?s church (if the couple came from different parishes), so if the parents were married in Clogheen then that might indicate the bride came from there. In which case that?d be the place to look for her baptism and that of any siblings, if the records go back that far.

  • I was afraid of that, but at least now I know!  Thank you.

  • The oddest thing just happened.

I was typing away and it all dissapeared.

But, I was saying that I am sorry I didn't get back here for so long. Why do you think Honora Keefe was from Caher?

I haven't found birth records for either edumnd or Honora. Except for 1 from Michelstown on the border.

I have 8 boys for them. No girls. Mine is Dermott; Demetrius on the church register; Jeremiah later; who went by Darby. It's a wonder we ever found him.

I don't know that Anne Fogerty married Daniel. That's one of my problems with no mother's names listed.

But the 2 in 1836 seemed to be to early for him to marry. Only 18? Most of the others were well into their 20s and 30s.

    But it could be.

I did see the 1784 birth for Honora. But didn't think it was reasonable for her to be having children in 1836? She would have been 52. John being the last one. But possible? I don't know.

I am thinking that daniel married to Anne isn't mine though.

    Thank you so much.
