Hello,
I am brand new to this website. I never knew this existed. I have just recently uncovered my Irish roots. I am 36 years old and live in the United States. I have recently started researching my ancestors and now I am stuck. I am looking for information regarding Mary Elizabeth Hartnett (born Ryan) and her parents. Mary was born in County Tipperary, Ireland, in August 1845 and died in 1911 in Illinois, United States. Her father's name is Patrick Ryan - unknown date of birth or date of death. Her mother's name is Hannora Ryan (born Gleison) - unknown date of birth or date of death.
Mary is my great-great-great grandmother.
I have found already from another member a baptismal record that has a listed date of 1844 on Mary. However no other information has been found as of yet. Such as any marriage records for Patrick and Hannora. Or their dates of birth and dates of death.
As I stated before, any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.
Karen

Hi Karen,
Thank you very much for your message.
Civil registration did not begin in Ireland until 1864 so in order to find baptismal/marriage records you will need to look at church records. Unfortunately, this meant that you will need to know what parish they came from.
There are some places where you can search online however:
www.familysearch.org has a huge database of genealogical records including some church records for Ireland.
www.rootsireland.ie have a large collection of Irish Church records, however you have to pay to use this site.
It may be an idea to contact the north Tipperary Genealogy Centre to see if they can be of any assistance, however please note that a fee may apply. Here are their contact details:
tipperarynorthgenealogy@eircom.net

From which parish was the baptismal record for Mary in 1844 - might help to identify siblings at least.

Clare,
I am unsure which parish it was from and I have yet to find any siblings for her. I am really struggling with all of this.
Thank you,
