I am looking for any information on these ancestors, please.

I know that they had a son, Patrick Joseph, born in 1887 but any more information, ie marriage dates and other children would be very helpful.

Thanks.

Do you know the names of the parents? Were they still in Ireland in 1901? I found a birth index record for a Patrick Joseph O'Connor in 1887 but not sure this is the correct one?

  • Thank,you Roger,

I think it might be the right one but I do have a copy of that thank you.

His parents were James and his mother was Adelena formerly Lane? I think but not certain of the registrars script!!

I would love to find out about their marriage though, if any details available.....

    Diane.

This may be the marriage index record. Ignore the other male names besides James O'Conner.

  • Hey Diane,

I have a look in our local records and found the following,

    Baptisms,

Mary b 10 Sept 1884 James O'Connor and Helena Lane  Sponsors Michael R O'Connor and Bridget Lane

Thomas b 23 Jan 1885 James O'Connor and Helena Lane sp Patrick Lane and Mary O'Connell

Patrick b 07 Sept 1887 James O'Connor  and Ellen Lane sp Thomas Corboy and Mary Collopy

Michael b 02 June 1889 James O'Connor and Helena Lane sp Malachy O'Connor and Mgt Collopy

Patrick b 15 Oct 1891  James O'Connor and Helena Lane sp Malachy O'Connor and Anne O'Connor

Adress for the two Patricks and Michael is Murroe (Village) at the time of their baptisms.

I did not find a marriage record for James and Helena in Murroe parish , I did look to see if there were any other records for Lane in Murroe and i only found one in each marriages and baptisms . This shows there it was a rare name and would also suggest that Helena was from a differnt parish .IT was also the tradition at the time to get married in the brides parish , so would be worth looking in neighbouring parishes for the marriage.i.e Cappamore , Doon , Ahane etc

I look at the the two census' 1901 and 1911 and the Patrick in the first one is 13 which tallies with the patrick born in 1887 but in the 1911 census the Patrick is 20 which would agree with the one born in 1891 , it does say beside Helena name that she had 7  children and only 3 living , so the first patrick must have died but does not account for why the younger Patrick is missing from the 1901 census. Its a funny one! It looks like they own a bar in the village .

  • Hello Aine,

thank you so much for all your research. The Patrick I am looking for is definately the one born on 7th Sept 1887. The first Patrick, my husband's grandfather, didn't die until about 1958.

I think you are right about them owning a bar because his father's occupation was listed as a licensed victualler on his wedding certificate.

I can't thank you enough and am very excited now to see how further I can get.

    Best wishes

    Diane

  • I have just come accross your message as I have lots of information researched on the Lanes...

James O'Connor married Ellen Lane on the 18th Feb. 1882 in Parteen Church, Ellen was born to Patrick Lane and Ellen Madden of Quinpool, Co. Clare. Ellen Lanes' brother Patrick M Lane had 13 in family and one of the daughters' who was a triplet Agnes Lane married Patrick Purcell of Cashel, Co. Tipperary and he was my great granduncle.

I am putting all the families together so would be interested in the family of James O'Connor and Ellen Helena Lane.

Any help with this O'Connor family would be greatly appreciately. I will send you anything else I find later.

    Yours Sincerely

    Mary O'Connor
