I am trying to get information regarding my family.  My father's family, Flannery, immigrated to Cleveland Ohio, United States around the late 1800's early 1900's.  I am sorry but I don't currently have much more information regarding my great grandparents.  I will attempt to get more information.

My mother's maiden name is McCafferty.  Her grandfather immigrated to Cleveland Ohio, United States around 1915-1920.  His first name was Patrick.

Any information on either of these families is appreciated.

Thank You,

Daniel Flannery

  • Hi Daniel,

There are quite a few Patrick McCaffertys on ancestry public member trees who were born in Ireland and lived in Cleveland. Can you give the name of his spouse or children or approximate age to help narrow it down?

With the Flannerys there are a couple of trees which have a Daniel Flannery born in Ireland who lived in Cleveland & died (22 Feb 1936 in Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio spouse Mary O'Malley. Does that ring any bells?

  • Col,

Patrick McCafferty was married to Agnes Mulgrew.  I am trying to get more information on both of their mothers' last names.  I will also try to get the year of birth for both of them.

I am still working on getting more information on the Flannery side of the family.

Thank you for all your help.

    Daniel

  • Thanks Daniel that was helpful.

Hugh O'Donnell's tree on ancestry has your family - Patrick McCafferty was born 21 Jan1883 in Mayo parents James and Mary nee Gallagher.

I got Patrick's birth  record on rootsireland.ie and got the parish - Achill (Roman Catholic).

Achill is a beautiful part of the world and is where my ancestors were from (Cafferky).

I then found the marriage of James McCafferty and Mary Gallagher - 1866 in Achill District Civil Parish. rootsireland.ie is a pay site so the record will cost you about $8 I think but it will give you the parents' names to keep working back.

Disappointingly, there were no McCaffertys in Mayo on the Griffiths Valuation which was done 1856-57 in Mayo. However, on the O'Donnell tree James is listed as Cafferkey as are some of the children of Patrick & Mary who are: Bridget McCafferty 1874-1967; Anna McCafferty 1877-1940; Michael Cafferkey 1879 - ?; Patrick 1883-1965; Nellie 1886 - ?.

Maybe we were related a long time ago?!

I hope we have the same success with the Flannerys!
