Trying to locate relatives and more information on the Power family. I know that in 1909, Bridget Power came to New York City from her home in Inistioge. In a 1901 census, she was 9 and living in a household with the following:

Ellen Power, 79, Grandmother, Widow

Margaret Power, 30, Daughter in Law, Widow

John Power, 12, Grandson

Joseph Power, 10, Grandson

They were from Kilkenny, Inistioge, Ballyshane, Gowran? We are coming to visit Inistioge at the end of October, and would love to visit family! Thanks for any help!!!

  • One other thing, I also know that Margaret Power was originally Margaret Walsh. The family story goes that a lot of the children died of a TB outbreak, and Margaret arranged for Bridget to leave and go to New York to work with family that had a boarding house there. I have all of that information, but I'm hoping someone is still around that knows something about relatives, where the original house was located, etc.

  • Hello. My name is Dennis Powers. I have been researching my Irish roots for quite a while with little success in Ireland but a lot of possibilities. I have zeroed in on Inistioge several years ago just based on names and dates. Here is what I know so far. My Great Grandfather was John Power born around 1861.His parents according to his death certificate were John Power and Ellen Hagen (Hagan). He may have had a sister named Mary. John came to the USA around 1888 and married Maggie Malone who was born in the USA to James Malone and Ellen Walsh.

Several items in your post seemed to be consistent so I though I would see if you have any more information.
