The only child of John and Mary (Gould) O'Brien We have been able to find is the Roman Catholic baptismal record for Ellen, baptized on August 27, 1830 in the Parish of Kilworth. Parents were John O'Brien and Mary Goolde.(Gould) Sponsors were James Hennessy and Elizabeth Evans. Unfortunately, no address was listed. Ellen who married Michael Cronin and moved to Janesville, Wisconsin.
There were 7 children: John, William, David, Margaret(1820), James(Oct1825), Ellen (Aug. 1830) and Patrick (18/Mar/1834).
The oldest came over first sending back monies and eventually everyone but John made it. John died before gaining passage. Mary came with her youngest son Patrick.
I believe that they might have lived in Killaly West. Any information you might be able to help with would be appreciated.

In the meantime have you tried looking in the land records pertaining to Ireland in the 19th century to see if you can tie the family down to a specific place?There are two:
The Tithe Applotment Books (1823-1838) found at http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp
and Griffith?s Valuation (1848-1864) found at http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/
Have you tried looking into the family?s emigration? Sometimes more infomation can be found at the port of arrival rather than that of departure. For information on US immigration records check http://www.archives.gov/research/immigration/

Thank-you Emma, I have/we have exahusted the options you recommend and it seems that the only thing left is to look at the actual Perish records in Dublin.
Nothing is definative and Mallow is very expensive to guess at in a roulette wheel like fashon.
As you say, I hope someone can help us out baring a trip to Dublin before going to Cork first.
