Hello my name is Rae, I'm new at this web page. I'm looking for my great grandfather family. His name is Robert Neill who came out to New Zealand around 1860's? - I know that the family farm is call Belturbet in Cavan, Annagh. His parents remain in Ireland and the live to a good age of 99 and 98 possibly move to Belfast? .I had read on the Parish page that records were destroy by fire - how do I go about looking for info on the family history?
Look forward to your reply,
Rae Easton

Hi Rae,
Thank you very much for your message.
You could try looking in church records in Annagh for more information. Most Catholic records are still held locally so they were not destroyed by the fire in 1922. Catholic records in Annagh start in 1845 so you may be able to find something there.
As you can see from the above link Cavan Genealogy have copies available. Here is their email, however a fee may apply: cavangenealogy@eircom.net Alternatively, you could try contacting the local parish priest for some possible assistance.
Civil registration began in Ireland in 1864 so any births, deaths or marriages in the family after this date would be recorded in these records. Civil records are available from the General Register?s Office. Here is their website:

You can search the indexes to these records up to 1958 online at:

You could also check for record of the family in the land records pertaining to Ireland in the 19th century. There are two:
The Tithe Applotment Books (1823-1838) found at http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp
and Griffith?s Valuation (1848-1864) found at http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/
If his parents were alive in 1901/1911 you may be able to find record of them in the census records which are available online here: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/
