I am searching for information on my ancestors from County Cavan. The information I have is as follows:
1901 Census:
Patrick McCahill - born 1870- head of household (age 30)
Kate McCahill (nee Brady)- born between 1870 and 1872- wife (age 30)
Bridget McCahill- born 1893- daughter (age 8)
Mary Ann McCahill- born 1894- daughter (age 7)
James McCahill- born 1896- son (age 5)
Katie McCahill- born 1898- daughter (age 3)
John McCahill- born 1899- son (age 2)
1911 Census: ( Parish- Crosserlough, District- Graddum, County-Cavan)
Patrick McCahill- head of household ( now shown as age 45- born 1866)
Kate McCahill- (nee Brady)- wife (now shown as age 42- born 1869)
James McCahill- son, age 14
Katie McCahill- daughter, age 12
John McCahill- son, age 10
Ellen McCahill- daughter, age 8
Michael McCahill- son, age 3
Terence McCahill-son, age 10 months
* Patrick's ( head of household) parents were James McCahill ( born about 1830) and Bridget McCahill (nee Smith) (born about 1830). I believe Patrick died around 1939.
** Kate's ( wife) parents were Lawrence Brady ( born about 1828) and Margaret McCahill (nee Smith) (born about 1846). I believe Kate died around 1920.
*** James ( son) died in 1914, at the age of 17
Would love any additional information. My grandmother, Katie McCahill (daughter), left Cavan to go to the US in 1921, after her mother's death, and never returned or kept contact. What happened to them all remained a mystery, and I would like to know. Would appreciate any help provided.
Thanks,
Rosemary Donnolly

Hi Rosemary,
Thank you very much for your message. I hope that someone with information on the family makes a connection with you and helps you to discover what happened to Katie?s family.
In the meantime, have you considered placing also placing a message in a more local forum such as a newspaper or newsletter? As her siblings would have been living during the last century it is possible that there may be someone in the area that may know of them or their families. Some possible places you may be able to do this are:
Anglo-Celt: http://www.anglocelt.ie/
It may also be an idea to contact the local parish priest. He may include a ?Reaching-Out ? message in their newsletter and he may also know who in the parish may be able to assist you. Here is a link to the parish contact page:
http://stmaryscrosserlough.net/
I hope these suggestions are helpful. Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
Kind regards,

Hello.
I found your response concerning the McCahill family when I logged onto this IrelandXO site for the first time. I don't have any definite connections to the individuals Rosemary lists, but I have found that their first names are familiar, especially the rare Terence, which I found out is the name of the father of my ancestor PAtrick Cahill, who I know was baptised in Crosserlough in April 1846. I also found the name was originally McCahill.
My question is probably an unusual one. I am satisfied my research has identified the right guy as our Cahill ancestor. I would like to see if I can show my family a definite genetic link to this little region in Cavan. Ancestry.com and other websites like familytreedna.com have a service which compares dna submitted through cheek swabs to see how closely any two people are related. My dna info is already on both of these sites. Are you aware of the best way to target people who may be interested in the same thing, so we can connect and submit dna cheek swabs so they can confirm a close family connection on the male (surname) line?
Hoping you don't find this too weird to respond,
Mike Cahill

Se?n,
Thanks for your reply. Please let me know when you have your ancestry.com full ancestry.com dna test and/or family tree dna dot com paternal-line test completed and posted. I believe if your ancestors are Cahills or McCahills from Denn, we will see the relation. For us members of the Irish diaspora, this would be an exciting confirmation of our research.
Are you a member of ancestry.com now? I can have ancestry "invite" you to see my tree, which is private, if you want to see what details I know now about my connection to Crosserlough/Cavan.
Best regards,
Mike

Hi there cousins
I am a descendent of the McCahill Bradys from Cavan and more specifically from Denn. My name is Suzanne Cahill and my grand-father was Patrick Cahill who was married to Catherine Brady - he was the youngest of five - his siblings being John, Phillip, Mary (who married Patrick Sheridan) and Rose Anne. My great grand-father was James Cahill and great great grand-father was James Mc Cahill from Rathcorick. John Cahill my grand-father's oldest brother married Anne Tierney and had four children whose names are Kate, Mary Anne, James and Josie. Josie only died in 2010. We have developed an excellent family tree so if anyone wants to joinn it please let me know. If anyone could shed light on Matthew Cahill and on the following whom I believe were Matthew's children- Denis, Jo, Rene, Kitty, that would be so helpful.
I hope this information may be of help
With best regards

Hi Rosemary,
I have just seen this post, and I am very excited. I believe that my great grandfather James was a brother to your Patrick McCahill.
James was born in Graddum in 1868 and was christened in Kilnaleck, according to the paperwork I have. His parents were James McCahill and Bridget Smith. I believe his siblings were -
Terence, b 1856
Annie, b 1858
Mary, b 1862
Bridgid, b 1865
John, b 1865
Patrick, b 1870
I have information on Terence, Annie, Mary and John who all migrated to Australia at different times. James also migrated to Australia. I would love to connect with you and share more information. You can reach me at monica.rankin@bigpond.com
regards,
looking forward to hearing from you,
Monica Rankin
