  • Did not realise he was married to a Pollard.  Are you aware of the local Pollard history?  Quite a story.

  • No I am not aware of the local Pollard history. I accidentally posted this to this parish. I meant to put it to Monkstown. Mathias Kenny was born in West Clare son of David Kenny. He graduated went to Ennis College (he was Roman Catholic) and then Edinburgh university where he graduated MD in 1810. He was my gt gt gt uncle, his sister Ellen was my gt gt grandmother. He served at the battle of Waterloo and in the peninsular wars. He at some point lived at Castle Pollard village. He made a late marriage to Anna Maria Pollard of Castle Pollard (castle). He somehow became rich and bought 4000 acres in Clare from sale of the O'Brien estates. he left his estates to his nephew Captain Thomas Kelly on the condition he take the name Kenny. Thomas later became General  Sir Thomas Kelly Kenny (see Clare library website or Wikipedia). He also left money to all of his family. I would really like to visit his grave. I have been working in Dun Laoghaire for the last year but dont know where the old Monkstown graveyard is or was.

George comyn Kenny who lived at Tieranascragh was a cousin of his. (David Mathias father and Edmond George's grandfather were brothers)

There was also a Pollard connection with Clare. (Kilrush) Anna Maria's nephew I think.

the same family include Matthew J Kenny parnellite MP and later judge and William Kenny unionist MP judge and privy councillor (both mentioned on Wikipedia)
