  • Hi Teno,

Patrick Burly married to Honor McInerney

    Michael                     18 Dec 1831

    Margaret                     25 April 1833

    John                          8 May 1836

    Margaret                  24 July 1839

    Patrick                      3 July 1841

Lived in Church Street Miltown Malbay (Carrigpatrick)

Along with Patrick Burly, there were also two George Burly's married in the area, of the same time period and also Williama and Michael. As this is a very unusual name for the area, it is reasonable to think that these men were realted. It is hard to say  who Honor's  parents were as the records commenced in 1830.

Michael McInerney married to Mary Hehir

Hannah 28 March 1840, Margaret 22 July 1842, Catherine 29 March 1845, Patrick 8 Jan 1852, I will have to find the townland they were from for you.

There were no Burlys left in Miltown Malbay by 1901. It is said that the name came to the are in the 1700 when the local landlord (Moroney)brought some trades people from Northern Ireland to the area to start a linnen industry.

    I hope this helps.

    Regards

Thank you so very  much for this information, I am looking forward to your contact again.

In my research, I find that the surname was Burley when they arrive in the USA, however, in the late 1800s it changed to Burleigh.  I dont know why and/or which one was correct and/or why did they change it.  It could be a simple matter of recording because they heard Burley, they did not hear Burleigh.  It would be nice if you can see what you have, if anything,  for the surname Burleigh

again, thank you very much for your contact info
