Searching for Lynam Family

I am seeking to contact descendants of Thomas Lynam and Bridget Carroll from Barnalisheen.

Thomas was born in Roscommon in 1831, but moved to Barnalisheen, possibly to take up a tenancy with the Earl of Carrick, or when married, about 1859. He is presumed to have died at Barnalisheen sometime between 1876, when he signed a lease for land, & approximately 1884, when his second son John Joseph left home.

"Tenant of Earl of CarrickHouse and Land: 5 acres 1 rod 18 perch Net annual values: land 3 .10. 0; house 0.15.0; Total: 4.5.0"

This property is believed to include House No.17, Barnalisheen

Bridgett Carroll was born in Newry, Antrim in 1837, & died in 1919 at Barnalisheen. Bridget & her son Thomas were living in House 17 as listed in the 1901 & 1911 census.

Known Children:

1. Thomas, b.1860, Barnalisheen. Not known if married.

2. Joanna, b. abt 24 Nov 1864, d. 30 Oct 1950. Birth registered at Moyne. m.John Fogarty (b.1843-d.1917) in Barnalisheen abt 1890. From photographs I have found, Johanna and some members of her family are buried at Barnalisheen.

3. John Joseph, (my Great Grandfather) b.4 Sep 1865, d.22 Jan 1914 at Laggan, NSW Australia. John Joseph left Ireland in 1884.

John Joseph m.Ellen Treacy on 29 Jan 1894, (d.18 Aug 1907) at 'Deep Creek', NSW Australia. They had 5 living children: Thomas John, Bridget Eileen (my Grandmother), Agnes, Johanna and John Gregory.

4. Joseph, b.abt 31 Aug 1866, birth registered at Moyne. m.1901 to Bridget Deavy, daughter of John Deavy of Cloneen, Co. Laois. 8 known children: Bridget, b.1901; John, b.1901?; Joseph, b.1903; Sarah, b.1904; Johanna, b.1906; Cornelius, b.1907; Antony, b.1909 & Francis, b. 1910. Other than they lived in Cloneen, Co. Laois I know nothing more about this family.

I am coming back to Ireland in September for one month, and prior to my visit I am very interested in contacting members of the Lynam Family, and, of course, am even more interested in meeting up with family members, and anyone else who can help me learn more about this branch of my Irish family.

  • Hi Antie,

I have your Lynam line in my Family Tree. Joseph P. Lynam 1902 married Margaret Theresa Earls who was my fathers sister. I would be happy to connect you with their children in particular Damian whom I am in contact with often.

    Sincerely

    Joan Earls
