Looking for any information on Patrick Duffy born 1804 in Armagh and his wife.  He married Alice Burns (Alley Burne) 26-Jun-1831 in Loughgilly, Armagh (she was born 1812 Armagh). The marriage was witnessed by Bernard McGinn and Peter Carr.  Between 1833 and 1856 they had 15 children, all born in Armagh.  They were Catholic and immigrated to Iowa, USA in 1857 aboard the ship Calhoun.   They arrived in New York May 1857.

The children were: Catherine, Mary, Michael Bernard, John, Patrick, Bridget, James, Francis, Owen Sylvester, Hugh N, Peter Henry, Matthais M, Edward J, Thomas, and Joseph Charles.  All but the two oldest girls went on to have families, all of which were equally large.  There are many, many descendents in the Fairbank, Iowa area and annual reunions are still held.

Patrick has been associated with Creggan and Newtown-Hamilton.  Alice has been linked to Tullysalon (Tullyvallan?), but I have never located a document to support either claim.  They always listed Armagh, and their marriage was recorded in Loughgilly.

Hoping someone may recognize these families.

  • My McKeown family ancestors were from Armach and my GG Grandpaps marriage was recorded in the Loughgilly Catholic church records.  I found this information by hiring a company called Armagh Ancestry in Armagh City, NI.  You might want to google them and get their email and see if they could help you.  Good luck with your search.

  • Peter McKeowne on 3-22-1869, sponsors were Pat McArdle and Catherine Burns

My ancestor, who were born in the same Loughgilly RC Church, had a sponsor named Catherine Burns.  Assuming they were all from the same area.

  • Thanks for the replies.  I am heading to Loughgilly as early as the end of next week.  If anyone would like me to look up anything or take photos of anything in particular I can try to do so.
