My grandmother did a rather extensive family history a few years ago and she listed a town and parish as the point of origin for our family, but I have been unable to find the town.  She has listed that it is the town of "Anshire, Parish of Refland, County Down."  Does anyone know if the town or parish ever existed or do you have any suggestions for a possible alternative, maybe a misspelling?  I'm going to be in Ireland soon, and I'd like to see if I can find the town.

Thanks

You can see all the townland names and parish names for Co Down and for the rest of Ireland on the following site. Unfortunately there?s no Anshire and no Refland. Nor can I suggest anything that is remotely like them. (There?s a parish of Drumgooland but it?s hard to see how that could be confused with Refland). I don?t think either Anshire or Refland is an obsolete version of an earlier name either. Neither comes up on Google as a place name in Ireland which you would expect if either were.

All I can suggest is that you post what you know about your family from Co Down and see if anyone can link it to existing records.
