Hello,

I am afraid I have very little to go on but my grandfather was Michael who married Margaret from Bray, I think. They moved to Garston in Liverpool, England and had several children Mary, Eileen, Johnnie, Peter, Michael, James, Martin- (my dad til his dying day insisted they also had siamese twin brothers , Jo-Jo, who were kept in jats at Bangor University but I set no store by that whatsoever!!)

Is anyone able to set this very small ball rolling?

Sincere thanks in advance x

  • Hi,

    Thanks for your message.

You may be able to find Michael and Margaret?s marriage records in civil records, which began in 1864. These are available from the general register?s office in Dublin.  Here is their website:

    http://www.groireland.ie/research.htm

You can search the indexes to these records up to 1958 online at:

    https://familysearch.org/search/collection/1408347

You should also be able to find their birth records which would give you a more specific place of origin which will open up more avenues of research to you.

Also, have you already checked the 1901/1911 census records? If you haven?t you can do so here: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/

Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching (in particular any important dates such as birth, marriage, emigration dates etc.) The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

    Kind regards,
