My grandfather moved to England in 1916 after joining the British army. (Apparently he was told he was helping the Irish cause by doing this and that if he didn't he would be sent to prison.) He never went back to Ireland. However, our family is now very curious about our roots.

According to the 1911 census, he was living on Clare Street in Limerick with his father Michael, mother Johanna, and his younger siblings - William, Josephine, Patrick and Michael.  Michael, Johanna and John (my grandad) had been born in County Tipperary.

Family stories say that Josephine died aged 23 leaving 3 children in the care of nuns. Patrick and Michael both came to England and died without having children. William stayed in Ireland. We always wondered what happened to Josephine's children and also to William.

Another great story is that Michael Crowe senior went to USA to join the 7th Cavalry. We had a photo of him in the uniform. However, something happened (the stories vary) and he came back to Ireland where he married Johanna Egan. I believe the family were tailors.

Does anyone have any information about our family?
