Ancestors from Scariff

I have the marriage a month earlier.  Not sure if that is my transcription error as some of the film is a little bad on the edges.

The name you give of "PORPEY" is likely a mis-read on handwriting as I don't find this surname in my reference books.   This name is likely "TORPEY" as I find a baptism for JOHN, son of JOHN NOLAN and MARGARET BURKE with sponsors Mich'l McNAMARA and Marg't McNAMARA or TORPY.  I can see how a fancy script "T" could be misread as a "P."

There is a McNamara Pub & Hotel in town but not sure this is the same family.  There a so many McNAMARAs in the area, they top the numbers of families in both Scariff and Feakle church records.

Do you know the name of the townlands where the farmers were? 

Jane our Tulla Liaison may be able to contact the locals to find out if this Mac family is still in the area.

I will check a few more things for you.

You may want to check the Clare Library site for directories to look up the dress shop.  The farms won't likely show up in any directories.  You can also check the donated churhc registers for Thomas Halloran's marriage and Michael Mac & Margt. Torpey's marriage.

Thank you James. You are right the spelling is a mistake on my part. It was Torpey....I will try the links and information that both you and Jane gave me. 

Do you know if it mentions the church they were married in. I am curious to know if it the same church still in Scariff. 

I also told Jane in am email that I may have a picture of the house my grandmother lived in and will send once I get it .

My reference is from the marriage and baptism registers of the
Scariff Roman Catholic Church, the same one standing there today.

I have a lovely photo of it from my last trip and hopefully, will attach it.

I found a few interesting things in the 1901 & 1911 census. I found Michael McNamara (Sarah's father) in 1901, age 42 as a agricultural laborer not a shopkeeper as we had thought. His wife was listed as Ellie (Ellen). Sarah's mother Honora (or Hanora) Halloran died in 1896 and her father married Ellen about 1900 and was a dressmaker. Michael had 6 children with Honora and 2 with Ellen.

i would like to go back further to find out more about Honora Halloran's father Thomas, we have as a farmer and her mother who we have no information on. 

I also would like to find out more about Michael McNamara's parents, Michael McNamara (b. about 1810 d.1882) and his mother Margaret Torpey (b. about 1818, d.1903). I did not find Margaret in the 1901 census.

I will try the Clare Library site and church registries as you mentioned. 

I will email separately the photo I have from the 1970's when I was in Scariff. I believe the first picture is the house my Grandmother grew up. When we went there are stepsister was living there. It would have been Anna May McNamara or Elizabeth McNamara.

on the 1901 census it states "Residents of a house 95 in (Scariff Village) Scariff Street (Scariff, Clare)". 

On the 1911 census it states "Residents of a house 71 in Scariff Town (Scariff, Clare).

Would this be there street address?

Do you know where the cematary is in Scariff where my ancestors would be buried?

There is a small cemetery next to Mountshannon Church.  There is likely one at Scariff church.  I've also seen one on the road between Scariff and Mountshannon, on the opposite side from the Lough Derg shore.
