Hi there,

I am researching my ancestor Andrew Egan, born abt. 1777 in Galway.  His parents were Andrew Egan & Sarah Loughnane.

Andrew married Bridget Foley, they had seven children between around 1810-1827, born in Longford.

Andrew and Bridget evidently emigrated to the USA, as Bridget died in 1854 in New Jersey.  Two of their grown children were there with their families - Michael Egan and Andrew Egan.  I have no immigration information for any of them.  I believe Michael Egan went to America between 1846-49 based on the birthplaces of his children.

Both Michael & Andrew (jnr) appear in the 1851 US Census, but I have not been able to find Andrew & Bridget in it.

Andrew snr (now a widower) and Andrew jnr and family emigrated again to Australia, on board the "Black Sea" arriving in Melbourne in Jan 1856.  Andrew had another son Patrick Egan already in Melbourne.

Andrew lived with his son Patrick in Brunswick, Melbourne and after Patrick died, he lived with Andrew (jnr) in Steiglitz (also in Victoria).

Andrew died 26 Oct 1873 in Steiglitz.  His death certificate says he was 96 years old, putting his birthdate around 1777.

Would love to find out what parish Andrew was from, the only clue I have is that his son Patrick Egan married Mary Carroll abt. 1836 in "Fohana" Galway.

Kind regards

There is a townland and civil parish called Fohanagh in East Galway. The Mormon Church has microfilm of the Church records for Fohanagh for 1827-1905. You would have to order the film online and go to a local Mormon Family History Center to view the records. www.familysearch.org
