Greetings all- I could use some help finding more information on my great-great-grandfather, John Smithwick. He enlisted with the 70th Regiment of Foot in Limerick as "#2598 John Smithwick" on March 15, 1847 at 5:00 PM in Limerick, "Age: seventeen years,Trade: labourer", claiming he was born "In the Parish of Murroe in or near the Town of Limerick in the County of Limerick". His physical description is listed as "Height: Five Feet 5 1/4 Inches; Complexion: Fresh; Eyes: Gray; Hair: Brown". He married Catherine Bradshaw on 12 Feb 1871 in Pallasgrean Parish, and had 13 children, many of whom show up in the various online resources. He died in 1889 in Kilduff, Pallasgrean Parish and was buried at the Church of Nicker. If you have any information on him or family, I'd love to know! Thanks in advance.

I have look in our Catholic records and found only 2 Baptism
William b 17 July 1822 to Robert Smithwick and Nancy Leader
Margaret b 03 June 1860 to Thomas Smithwick and Alicia Barton
Just because he was not baptised in murroe it doest not mean he was not born or lived in Murroe , depending on where they lived in the parish , if on the border between 2 parish they may have gone to the closest church ,So you could try Cappamore and Caherconlish .However records in Cappamore only start in 1845 so you may be out of luck there but you may find some siblings or other relations.
Another thing to try is land records -
Griffiths Valuations 1851 Check for Abington( Murroe) , Tuogh ( Cappamore) and Grean (Pallasgreen) - note the names and border of the parishes have change over time so there may be some cross over
Tithe Applotments- various years 1820s ad 1830s

Pin pointing where there were , Smithwicks at these times might help to go on further !
I know there are smithwick to be found on both these land records.
