I am looking for any information on WIlliam Phillip Kennedy born circa 1795 in Lecarrow, Ballina, Ballamore.
Kennedy probably married circa 1819-1822 to Catherine O'Boyle.
Emmigrated to Ontario Canda 1847. Died ten days after arriving in Ontario from shipping fever.
Phillipsville Ontario area.
9 Children: Michael, Phillip, Thomas, Eugene (Owen), Edward (Ned), Mary,Ann, Bridget, Elizabeth.
It is said he was a commissioner of a workhouse - and first cousin to Archbishop John MacHale of Tuam.

Hi,
Thank you very much for your message.
I assume that you are referring to Ballina town as there was a workhouse there during the 1800?s. However I am unable to find a reference to Ballamore in Co. Mayo. Ballina town is part of the civil parish of Kilmoremoy so this is where you will be looking for records.
You could try looking for church records to see if you can find any information on William. Most Catholic records are held locally so you may need to write to the local parish priest for possible assistance. One website that you may find useful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. It also shows you where copies of the records are available. For Kilmoremoy parish, follow this link:
As you can see from this link the North Mayo Family History Research Centre has copies available so it may be an idea to contact them. However a fee may apply. Here is their email: normayo@iol.ie
There are Kennedy?s listed on Griffith?s Valuation in Kilmoremoy parish, perhaps if you know some additional family member you be know if there are family that remained in Ireland:
For information on the workhouse in Ballina, follow this link:

It may also be an idea to contact the Local Studies Department of Mayo County Library to see if they have any records available that may be helpful to you.

Some other websites that you may find useful in your research are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx

Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
