I found one birth index record for a John Keeffe born in Co. Tipperary in 1868. This record may or may not be your GGF. You would need to write to the GRO www.groireland.ie fill out their form and provide the registration district (Callan) year of registration and volume and page number. The birth record should show the parents names and the townland where they lived.

Many thanks for the information, I live in the UK and it was so kind of you to look up my relative. I will certainly write to the GRO and see where that leads me. I also will pass this information on to a relative in Canada who is also researching the Keeffe name, I only recently found out that my great grandfather's name was just Keeffe as my grand father was known a John O'Keeffe. My contact in Canada forwarded me the 1911 Census. I had drawn a brick wall because of the name difference. We both only know that my G.G Grandad was born in Tipperary. So once again thank you for your time and effort.
