Searching for Bridget Flaherty, born March or May 1852 or 1853 in Galway Bay area.
Parents were probably James and Agnes or Margaret Flaherty. Agnes was born
1825 in Galway. Nothing is known about James Flaherty. He may have died prior to the family's move to America. There were many James Flahertys in Galway on Griffith's. Of particular interest was/were James Flaherty (s)
who probably rented many houses in Galway City. Since the Flahertys were probably Catholic, they could not own land so may have rented several houses and then rerented them. This idea comesfrom the fact that in Louisville, Kentucky and Cincinnati, Ohio, Flahertys ran boarding houses. This family seems to have immigrated to America after the famine, between1853 and 1864. Any information
regarding this family will be gratefully received.

Do you know much about their emigration? The dates, the reasonwhy they left, who they may have travelled with?..etc..Generally more information was given atthe port of arrival rather than the port of departure. If you knew which city they arrived at (e.g.Liverpool, New York, etc.), this could be a good place to find more information. -And perhaps evenfind out an exact place of origin. Ellis Island:http://www.ellisisland.org/search/passSearch.asp Castlegarden:http://www.castlegarden.org/ US National Archives/Immigration info:http://www.archives.gov/research/immigration/ The Boston Pilot; From October 1831 through October 1921, the Boston Pilot newspaper printed a?Missing Friends? column with advertisements from people looking for ?lost? friends and relativeswho had emigrated from Ireland to the United States. This extraordinary collection of 40,743 recordsis available here as a searchable online database, which contains a text record for each ad thatappeared in the Pilot. http://infowanted.bc.edu/ The next thing you could do is find the counties and places in Ireland your family names are mostprevalent. Look at the website http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/surname/ and perhapssomething will match some other clue you may have found elsewhere? If nothing turnsup ? it is advisable to try different variations of the spellings of the names. If you have a possiblefirst name you could try the Irish Census 1901, 1911 at www.census.nationalarchives.ie/ or the landvaluation record called Griffiths Valuationhttp://askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml

Their children: Thomas, Mary Ann, and twins Joseph & Edward Flaherty.
Joseph was my grandfather. He married Elizabeth O'Flaherty, and
then married again to my grandmother, Mary Cooney, whose family came

My ggrandparents were from Galway, presumably Spiddal. John Flaherty and Julia Kelly were probably born in in 1830's although John may have been born earlier as family says he was deceased when Julia emigrated. They had sons John Joseph, Michael, Morgan and Martin and one daughter Mary Ann, my grandmother.
Julia and her son Morgan emigrated to Boston on the SS Sarmatian arriving in the US in 1903.
We believe all the sons and daughter lived in and married in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
We also think that both Morgan and Martin served in Hong Kong as members of the Royal Irish Constabulatory and that Martin died there from disease, year unknown.
When Julia and Morgan left Ireland, their last place of residence was listed as Spiddal.
To the best of our knowledge, Julia's other children all came into Rhode Island ports.
Would love to connect with any relatives!
hope I am posting in the right place, it's tough on the iPad!
Thank you and regards, Joan
